Aimed at riders who are getting serious but are not spending S-Phyre money yet. The XC503 drops the forefoot strap in favor of a Shimano-engineered lace profile pulled by a BOA L6C dial, which spreads the tension more evenly across the top of the foot than a strap does — fewer pressure points on a long day.

The midsole is nylon reinforced with carbon fiber at outsole stiffness grade 7, so it is firm enough for hard efforts while still comfortable to walk in. Spikes are rider-tunable, so you can add traction for a muddy day or leave them out to save weight. Shimano use recycled material in the toe box and midsole without giving up stiffness.
