The 451 race rim in carbon, in the version built with braking sidewalls for V-brake use. If you are running rim brakes, this is the one you need — the brakeless version has no surface for the pads to grip.
Excess build it from a 3K weave with an undercoat finish, which combines strength, rigidity and light weight in a way alloy cannot match at 289 g. The payoff on track is lateral stiffness: the wheel resists twisting under you in a rutted turn, so the bike goes where you point it. Angled nipple holes let each spoke enter the rim at a straighter angle, building a more rigid wheel that stays true longer.
One important point: carbon rims need dedicated carbon-specific brake pads. Standard pads will damage the rim.
