The most affordable clipless shoe in this lineup, and a sensible place to start. Three hook and loop straps hold the foot securely, which has a real advantage over a dial system for a first pair: nothing to break, nothing to replace, and it is obvious how to adjust it.

Outsole stiffness is grade 5, firm enough to pedal against properly while staying comfortable to walk in, and the rugged rubber outsole grips on mixed ground. The off-set strap relieves pressure along the top of the foot, which is the spot that usually aches first on a long day. Shimano use 26 percent recycled mesh in the upper and midsole by weight.
