The X11 DLC is the top of KMC's 11-speed range, and what you are paying for is the Diamond Like Coating. It is an extremely hard surface treatment that resists abrasive wear, so the chain holds its stability and runs longer before it stretches out of spec — the practical benefit being fewer chain and cassette replacements over a season.

Underneath the coating it is the same super light construction as the SL: hollow pins, hollow plates, chamfered edges, and a mud shedding plate shape that is 27 percent more rigid than the previous generation. It is non-directional, closes with a Missing Link, and comes in six two-tone colors, which is the other reason it ends up on show bikes.
